Welcome Message
On behalf of the Organising Committee, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to the 10th Asia Pacific Congress of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgery. This Congress will be held in Singapore, 11th – 13th August 2011 at the Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre, located in the heart of the city.
The theme will be “So Radical Today, So Obvious Tomorrow”. New approaches like NOTES, NOTUS, and SILS will be scrutinized under an ‘academic microscope’. By then there will be enough patients to address issues of safety, feasibility and outcome. Consensus on who should do it and who to train will also be sought. The impact of Robotic Surgery will be clearer in the next few years. Cost effectiveness and patient selection will be discussed. Longer term results of using the laparoscopic approach for cancer (stomach, colon, liver, kidney, prostate, uterus, etc) should be available. The prospect of Metabolic Surgery in managing weight and as a way of ‘curing’ diabetes mellitus wiuroll be exciting.
This 10th Asia Pacific Congress organised by ELSA in Singapore will also be unique in two ways. There will be four national societies participating making it the biggest surgical congress in Singapore in 2011.
They include the Society of Colorectal Surgeons (Singapore), Obstetrics and Gyneacological Society of Singapore, Singapore Urological Association and the Gastroenterological Society of Singapore. There will also be special sessions for pediatric surgery and thoracic surgery. Another unique feature is a one day symposium in Mandarin to cater to non-English speaking delegates.
Participants will have ample opportunities to improve their skills in various hands-on pre- and post- congress workshops conducted by world experts. There will be at least 2 plenary lectures per day to shed light on latest innovations that can benefit doctors from all disciplines. Symposia will aim to be interactive and include differing views on various topics. We are confident that this conference will prove to be both educational and enjoyable. Dear Dear Colleagues:
On behalf of the executives of the endoscopic and laparoscopic surgeons of Asia (ELSA), I am pleased to welcome you to the 10th Asia Pacific Congress of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgery. Since it was originally chartered in Singapore, 1992, ELSA has routinely organized an annual congress that was hosted by an elected member country every year. In 2011, it is back to Singapore.
From Singapore to Singapore, from 1992 to 2011, annual ELSA congress is again hosted on the same land but with different goals. Through the years, ELSA not only provides opportunities for laparoscopic surgeons to exchange ideas and clinical experiences with each other but also allows other surgeons to have greater looks at this particular technology. Furthermore, it enhances the opportunities for doctors within Asia- Pacific region to associate with the ones from different continents of the globe. Consequently, the organization has propelled the development of the laparoscopic technology into higher level for the region.
The technology of laparoscopic surgery has greatly evolved and reshaped the field of surgery. There have been many intuitions and new technologies blended into the procedure to transform it from the old fashion to the present stage. From concaved monitor to high definition display; from multi-port to single-port; from laparoscopic approaches to robotic surgery to tele-surgery; and from endoscopic assisted laparoscopic procedures to natural luminal orifice endoscopic surgery (N.O.T.E.S.). As renovation and creativity are ongoing, the developments of new technology never stop.
Finally, let us witness the showcase of most advance procedures and future prospects in laparoscopic and endoscopic approaches in the 10th Asia Pacific Congress of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgery all together in Singapore. Singapore was one of the founding members of ELSA. Her medical level is always one of the leading edges in Asia. Through the years, she has made great contributions to the development of ELSA. In addition to her medical advancements, Singapore shows strong power in economics and finances with diversified cultures that holds her the best quality of life in Asia and top five busiest ports of the globe.
